Approval by State Government
Guru Nanak University is a privately funded State University established through an act of State Legislature of Kapurthala Punjab (02 of 2012)

Approval by AICTE
As per law, Universities do not require AICTE approval. Only institutions which are affiliated to Universities require approval. As Guru Nanak University is a Bonafide University established by a State Act, it does not require AICTE approval. The ruling was notified in the case of Bharathidasan University vs. AICTE.
As per AICTE’s reply to an RTI, “Universities including Private Universities established by the State Legislations do not require prior approval from AICTE”
Recognition / Approval by Statutory Bodies
Bar Council of India (BCI): The Bar Council of India is a statutory body established under the Advocates Act 1961 that regulates the legal practice and legal education in India. Its members are elected from amongst the lawyers in India and as such represents the Indian bar. It prescribes standards of professional conduct, etiquettes and exercises disciplinary jurisdiction over the bar. It also sets standards for legal education and grants recognition to Universities whose degree in law will serve as a qualification for students to enroll themselves as advocates upon graduation. Pharmacy Council Of India (PCI) – The Pharmacy education and profession in India upto graduate level is regulated by the PCI, a statutory body governed by the provisions of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 passed by the Parliament. Main objectives of PCI are towards Regulation of the Pharmacy Education in the Country for the purpose of registration as a pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, and, Regulation of Profession and Practice of Pharmacy. Guru Nanak University is now recognized by Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The AIU Governing Council in its 328th Meeting, granted provisional membership of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to Guru Nanak University, Punjab. AIU serves as the representative of universities in India and undertakes various programs as would help to improve standards of instruction, examination, research, textbooks, scholarly publications, library organisation and such other programs which may contribute to the growth and propagation of knowledge.

RECOGNISED BY NCTE
Guru Nanak University is now recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The National Council for Teacher Education, in its previous status since 1973, was an advisory body for the Central and State Governments on all matters pertaining to teacher education, with its Secretariat in the Department of Teacher Education of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
